The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) BioPreferred® Program and the National Wooden Pallet & Container Association (NWPCA) recently announced that all coated and uncoated wood pallets manufactured with NWPCA’s Pallet Design System™ (PDS) are now recognized by USDA’s BioPreferred® Program.
We are proud to announce that Berry Industrial is now a member the USDA BioPreferred® program and all of our PDS designed pallets are USDA Certified Biobased products.
This is exciting news for several reasons. Firstly, the certification confirms the strong environmental attributes of wood pallets. A product’s biobased content is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable carbon source, such as plant, animal, or forestry raw materials. Berry Industrial’s PDS designed pallets are certified as 100% biobased. Utilizing biobased materials displaces the need for non-renewable materials and plays an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate global climate change. Wood is the only 100% renewable, recyclable and reusable product available.
The main goal of the BioPreferred® program is to increase the purchase and use of these biobased products to spur economic development, create new jobs and provide new markets. The increased development, purchase, and use of biobased products reduces our nation’s reliance on non-renewable materials, increases the use of renewable agricultural resources, and contributes to reducing adverse environmental and health impacts.
Another exciting aspect to this news is that the USDA now recognizes that the Pallet Design System™ (PDS), which Berry Industrial utilizes to design its pallets, is the only product that evaluates wood pallet strength and durability. PDS is a computer-aided engineering tool used to design and produce better performing pallets that are safer, stronger and longer lasting.
Berry Industrial delivers performance, savings and sustainability with every pallet.
